Help Me Find Shelters for the LOVE SAVES THE DAY TOUR!

Hi, guys!  It's been an INSANE roller-coaster of a week here in the Cooper-Lerman household getting my new book, LOVE SAVES THE DAY, launched.  To say I'm tired is an extreme understatement.  ;-)  But now I'm turning my attention to this spring/summer's LOVE SAVES THE DAY tour, and I need your help.

Basically, I'm interested in learning about no-kill shelters in the following cities.  Please note: These are not the only cities I will visit on my tour, and these cities will not be definite stops.  There are many shelters in small-towns and out-of-the-way corners of the country that I'm already looking at, and also several major cities where I'm already in touch with at least one great shelter (and in some cases, many more).  In a nutshell, I'd like to travel as far and wide as I can, so that I get the chance to meet the maximum number of the readers and rescuers I've spent the last three amazing years getting to know online.  :-)

So if you do know of an outstanding no-kill shelter in any of these cities, hit me with their name (and, if available, a link to their website) in the comments section:

San Francisco

Kansas City

Portland, OR

Southern California

Thanks, guys!  I look forward to meeting you on the road! :-D

Concord, NC - Princeton's Meow! Awesome place!!

If you are in North Carolina, you have to stop in at Princeton's Meow. It is a no kill shelter that works harder than any other I have seen. They save so many cats and kittens - it is wonderful. They are located at 29 Brookwood Avenue NE in Concord, NC. The staff is awesome and the volunteers amazing! I personally have adopted three cats from them and couldn't be happier with the support they provide.

Harmony House - Eco-friendly cageless cat shelter

Chicago is not on your list, but maybe in the fall you will make it to our city? Harmony house is a cageless no-kill shelter that houses the cats and kittens in Chicago's greenest adoption center. Besides all the incredible windows for the cats to look out, there are solar panels and geo-thermal wells to produce energy to operate the building

So glad someone already mentioned Purrfect Pals in Arlington, WA! They're also on Facebook, as is The Critter Room, run by probably their most famous "foster dad". (If you ever do a tour of Canada that takes you to Halifax, I will promptly point you towards the Bideawhile Animal Shelter.)

Hi there! First, thank you so much for sharing Homer's story! I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED reading about all of your fur-kids and could totally identify with all of them in one way or another. :)

Second, regarding a shelter in the Minneapolis area...I see you've already been told about Animal Ark, and it is a great organization. There are a few others listed here:

However, I volunteer for one of the best and largest shelters throughout Minnesota, the Animal Humane Society (www.animalhumanesociety.ort) and although it is not a no-kill shelter, I can personally guarantee they do the best they can to reduce and eliminate euthanasia altogether. Sometimes, though, there are worse things in life than death - such as when an un-wanted animal is brought to a no-kill shelter to be told they don't have room. What happens to the animal then can sometimes be greatly disturbing. At the AHS, they don't turn away any critter, even wildlife, and it truly is a wonderful organization...please consider it on your tour.

Incidentally, I'm SO happy you're coming to Minneapolis! You are just as interesting as your cats - and your vivacious nature definitely came across in HOMER'S ODYSSEY. :) Thank you again for sharing the stories of Scarlett, Vashti, and especially Homer.

Princeton's Meow -Cage Free Adoption Facility

In the small town of Concord, NC is a renovated Dr's office. It houses cats for the Humane Soc of Concord. Cats and kittens are moved from the animal control facility to Princeton's to free cage space so others coming into the shelter will not be killed. It has saved so many lives. The cats also no longer have to be caged once they arrive. A wonderful place for the kitties. Please visit and enjoy as it is a delight!

Milo's Sanctuary & Special Needs Cat Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) and was founded on the belief that all cats deserve a second chance at life, especially those that have physical disabilities, are seniors, have a terminal illness or have been abused and need someone to care for love and understand them.

    Also in Portland Oregon

Someone already mentioned "CAT" - which is probably the biggest no-kill cat-only shelter and is close to Portland.

There is also "House of Dreams Cat Shelter" in Portland which has a room dedictated for Feline Leukemia cats. Their website is:
(Though it's smaller, and probably more difficult to get people together to meet you there.)
